Our October issue reminds us why it’s important this month and every month to Think Pink! We discuss important issues surrounding Breast Cancer and explain why our mastectomy service is so dear to our hearts. Check out our lingerie segment on CBC’s Living in Toronto and hear about my behind-the-scenes adventure at the Toronto International Film Festival.

Underworld Factoid

Keep your beautiful bras looking and fitting their best, longer, by carefully cleaning them after every other wearing. Ideally hand-wash them in gentle detergent and allow them to air dry. Remember machine washing is hard on delicate lingerie and they should NEVER see the inside of a dryer! To further enhance their life expectancy, give them a rest between wearing to allow fabrics a chance to relax and go back into shape.

Give a Lift Get a Lift Event

While we're on the topic of helping others this month, here's something you will want to remember. Any time you bring in a clean, gently worn bra, we'll donate it to a local women's shelter and you'll receive $1.00 of your next bra purchase.

New Addition to the Linea Intima Family

I am thrilled to tell you that I became a Grandmother on August 30. Jacob Samuel Mann was born at 12:39 pm, weighing 6lbs.5oz., to my son Rani and his wife Lisa. We couldn't be more delighted and are having so much fun getting to know Jacob!

Happy October!  Every year at this time our attention turns to Breast Cancer.  The latest news about the fight against this disease is very encouraging, which is indeed 'happy'.  It was recently reported that breast cancer deaths have declined across all age categories since at least the mid-1990s.  Having said that, it is the most common cancer among Canadian women.  Read on to see how Linea Intima is committed to this important cause.  With your help we can make a difference.

BREAST CANCER MONTH

Breast Cancer Society of Canada

IT'S OCTOBER...THINK PINK!

For the entire month we are thinking pink (not that we don't all year...as we should) and encouraging you to as well!  For every bra you purchase in October, we'll donate $1.00 to The Breast Cancer Society of Canada, a wonderful organization that funds vital research and works to increase awareness about this disease.  To learn more about the BCSC, please log onto www.bcsc.ca.  It's a great reason to buy a new bra!

GET ACQUAINTED WITH YOUR BREASTS

Use the month of October as a marker in the calendar to remind yourself about the importance of breast self-examination.  Although opinion has recently shifted and it's been reported that monthly self-exams are not a foolproof way to detect cancer, it's still considered important for women to look at and feel their breasts regularly in order to detect any changes in them.  "There is no right way or wrong way, just be familiar with your breast tissue," says Heather Logan, director of cancer control policy and information at the Canadian Cancer Society.  Our Newsletter last year talked about self-exams and I was pleased and overwhelmed to hear from 2 customers who personally contacted me to say thank you.  Because of the reminder, they had detected lumps and were successfully treated.  One of them was a 34 year old...remember, young women are afflicted too.  A third contacted me to say she'd prompted her mother to examine herself and she found a lump and under went a successful mastectomy.

MASTECTOMY SERVICE UPDATE

Improvements in prostheses make a world of difference.
I honestly feel that fitting women for a prosthesis is an art form and this is probably the most rewarding service we provide.  I think we really help to make a difference in people's lives, which gives us such great satisfaction.  The key to a good mastectomy fitting is a good bra-fitting.  Each person's situation is different, requiring an expert evaluation and often some creativity in the solution!  And not everyone's procedure is straightforward; for instance, the woman who had a radical mastectomy on one side and a lumpectomy on the other.  She needed two different prostheses to attain the proper fit and balance.  Thankfully there is such diversity in the products available now, that it allows us to fine-tune and individually customize to each person's special requirements.  Today there are products to fit left, right, symmetrical, asymmetrical plus different shapes and weights to help us achieve optimal results.  It's these type of comments that keep us working hard to help...
"I forgot they weren’t mine when I ran for the bus!"
"I felt whole again!"
"I feel guilty that I can actually feel this good!"

TIFF CELEB NEWS

Kristen Booth

Linea Intima on the Red Carpet at the Toronto International Film Festival!
All of Toronto was abuzz last month during the annual Toronto International Film Festival and Linea Intima was right there on the red carpet!  Ok...well...not us personally, but one of our bras attended the premiere of This Beautiful City, worn by the gorgeous Canadian actress Kristen Booth.  We got the 911 call from her publicist the morning of the event and bee-lined it to the Tastemakers Lounge at the Intercontinental Hotel (celeb central during TIFF), for a personal bra-fitting with her.  Here's how amazing she looked in a Greta Constantine dress with our Nicol by Piege black/nude lace push-up bra playing a supporting role!

One x One Fundraising Gala Swag Bag

Linea Intima merchandise was included in the swag bag delivered to the hotel suites of celebs attending this gala fundraiser, which has become a cornerstone event during TIFF.  The likes of Jennifer Garner, Petra Nemacova and Duchess Sarah Ferguson, received gift bags which included a pair of Hanky Panky panties and a personal note from yours truly!

Until next month!
